VM-based Distributed Active Router Design
نویسنده
چکیده
The active network approach allows an individual user to inject customized programs into an active nodes in the network, usually called programmable/active routers, and thus process data in the network as it passes through. As the speeds of network links still increase, and subsequently, the applications’ demands for the network bandwidth increase as well, a single active router is infeasible to process such highbandwidth user data in real-time, since the processing may be fairly complex. In order to improve the scalability of such a system with respect to number of active programs simultaneously running on the router and with respect to the bandwidth of each passing stream processed by active sessions, the distribution of processing load and network bandwidth is desirable. The subject of this paper is to propose a distributed active router architecture with a loadable functionality that allows strong isolation of users’ programs using Virtual Machine (VM) approach.

Cost-Effective Flow Table Designs for High-Speed Routers: Architecture and Performance Evaluation
Provision of QoS-related router functions such as traffic regulation, policy routing, and usage-based accounting requires that a flow table store state information for active flows. The design of such a flow table is not trivial for a high-speed Internet router (e.g., 100+ Gbps) with a large number of active flows (e.g., tens of millions) and a high packet arrival rate (e.g., tens of millions o...

Denial of Service Attacks represent a major threat to modern organisations who are increasing dependent upon the integrity of their computer networks. This paper presents a new approach to combating such threats by introducing active routers into the network architecture. These active routers offer the combined benefits of intrusion detection, firewall functionality and data encryption and work...

متن کاملAn Active Network Approach to Eecient Network Management
Active networks is a framework where network elements, primarily routers and switches, are programmable. Programs that are injected into the network are executed by the network elements to achieve higher exibility and to present new capabilities. This work describes a novel active network architecture which primarily addresses the management challenges of modern complex networks. Its primary co...
متن کاملDesign of a Low-Latency Router Based on Virtual Output Queuing and Bypass Channels for Wireless Network-on-Chip
Wireless network-on-chip (WiNoC) is considered as a novel approach for designing future multi-core systems. In WiNoCs, wireless routers (WRs) utilize high-bandwidth wireless links to reduce the transmission delay between the long distance nodes. When the network traffic loads increase, a large number of packets will be sent into the wired and wireless links and can...
